In Greek, the word impact translates as “antíktypos”, which means “impact” or “effect.” For some reason, I’ve always perceived this word in an auditory way: to me, it sounds like a loud bang, a powerful noise. Just as a sudden crash disrupts the peaceful stillness of silence, impact disturbs the calm—often stagnant—waters of normality, whether for better or for worse.Although, as a person, I don’t particularly enjoy loud noises—which is quite a challenge these days as an aspiring drummer!—I am almost obsessively passionate about creating opportunities for positive impact in every aspect of my life. For me, creating positive impact is something of a personal mission—almost a vow—both personally and professionally.
2. Can you share a specific moment or initiative when you felt you created real impact?
I can think of quite a few moments when I felt I had managed to inspire change, both inside and outside the workplace. Most of them are connected to mentoring conversations with younger—and not so young—people in my network, as well as entrepreneurs and startup founders.
Those conversations have brought me some of my brightest moments, but also some of my darkest. There are times when you realize you simply cannot help someone overcome the obstacle they’re facing, and that always leaves me feeling disappointed and deeply saddened.At the same time, because I genuinely enjoy building relationships and creating meaningful connections, I feel a great sense of fulfillment whenever I manage to bring together people who can collaborate, complement one another, and ultimately multiply their positive impact.
3. If you could give a voice to something that is currently overlooked, what would it be?
I would give a voice to truly dedicated teachers. The ones who are passionate about sharing knowledge, sharpening minds, and cultivating critical thinking so that people can develop the right priorities in life. Every kind of teacher—whether in schools, universities, the arts, music, or anywhere else.I often feel that their voices go unheard, and perhaps they themselves sometimes believe that all their effort goes unnoticed. That kind of discouragement is devastating for future generations, because it means many devoted educators may eventually give up.And then… I honestly don’t even want to imagine what comes next.
4. What kind of impact have you already created through Wise Greece, and how has your collaboration evolved so far?
Melina and I were introduced by colleagues who believed we simply had to meet—and they were absolutely right! I truly believe that she and her team are doing exceptional work on every level. In fact, Wise Greece has collaborated with our Group on many different projects over the years.For me, however, the most iconic initiative—and the one with the greatest impact—is the SDGs Coffee Breaks.Over the past three years, they have become a much-loved tradition for our people. We’ve already completed one full cycle and are now well into the second. Through this format, we’ve been able to inform, inspire, and bring our people together. Today, the SDGs Coffee Breaks have evolved into the platform through which we discover shared interests across our teams, helping us organize meaningful volunteer initiatives that truly resonate with our people.
